“The Gala of all
Galas!”
The “A Candle in the Dark” Gala is an exceptional evening of elegance and achievement celebrated annually in February during the College’s Founder’s Week observance.
Established in 1989 by Morehouse alumni Robert H. Bolton ‘86 and Hardy R. Franklin ‘83, it has befittingly paid tribute to distinguished African Americans for their outstanding contributions in business, law, education, science, technology, sports, and entertainment, among other professions.
Past Gala Honorees include iconic achievers who have made their indelible marks in their respective careers including: Prolific Playwright August Wilson, Three-time Heavyweight Boxing Champion Muhammed Ali, Oscar-Winning Actor Denzel Washington, Legendary Singer-Songwriter Stevie Wonder, Pioneer Political Activist and Actor Harry Belafonte, Baseball Hall of Famer Henry “Hammering Hank” Aaron, Media Mogul Oprah Winfrey and Prominent Philanthropist Robert F. Smith.
This Black-tie tribute celebrating African-American achievement is not only one of the College’s and community’s most anticipated and attended affairs, but also Morehouse’s most successful event supporting student scholarships.
To date, thanks to the investment of corporate sponsors like you, the Gala has grossed more than $30 million with net proceeds benefitting the Morehouse College General Scholarship Fund. On Saturday, February 17, 2024, Morehouse will commemorate its 157th year of educating and developing extraordinary leaders.
Held at the majestic Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, the VIP Reception commences at 6 p.m. with the Gala following at 7:30 p.m. We hope that you will join us!
